The Twenty-third!

Planning to celebrate your 23rd birthday??? Here are a few things which you might want to consider before going ahead.

The tricky occasion of completing 23 years of your life makes sure that it sends all the bells ringing to wake you up and embrace the ugly truths of life. Amidst the phone calls and the messages that I received when the clock struck 12, there was something which kept me anxious throughout the night. I had just completed 23 years of my life and was wondering have I already grown up to take up all responsibilities or do I still have few more years to enjoy the youth.

Usually, at this point of time in our lives, there is hardly anything settled. You have just realised that college life is all but over. So seldom hangouts, less group outings, no more copy writing assignments and the list would go on. It  . Probably you are trying to find your feet among the ever increasing working class.
The years following college aren’t kind to us.

Apart from these career specific battles we also battle the relations we have. Our friends with whom we plan every outing are slowly getting busy into their lives. The frequent outings turn into infrequent meets. We are ourselves surrounded by new people; some elder and already established and some on the verge of establishing themselves. This phase of feeling left out from both the places might often add up to the deserted mind of ours. Our parents are retiring from their workplaces and the pressure of handling the family is slowly shifting on our shoulders. We are thrust into the real world with a large amount of student debt, jobs that barely pay enough to make rent, relationships that are rapidly changing and a profound feeling of being lost on how to handle it all. Nobody likes you when you’re twenty-three, including your own life.

Hold on!  Don’t be so judgemental about your life.

The future has plenty of time to fall into place. At this age probably, the famous Walt Disney had declared bankruptcy, J K Rowling was broke and apparently the best host Orpah was fired as a TV reporter. If these facts seem vain, then Rahul Dravid – The Wall as he is fondly known; had not even made his international debut when he was of this age.

Things do fall in place. Rome was not built in a day and same goes for our lives. It’s this phase where we need to lay a strong foundation for the coming future. This is the time to plan and work and in the direction you want to go. You have just begun to get the remote control of your life in your own hands; now it’s your time to dance to the tunes you have longed for. It’s the pinnacle of your youth and you are already looking better than you were ever before. A scientific study supports this by saying that people look the best at the age of 23. You are no longer naïve and soon you will be all independent. You are perhaps going to bring up your own family in the coming decade; you yourself need to be strong to do that.

And if the portrait is unclear right now, don’t worry because – “Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost!”
